- Community
of Christ is hosting the 65th
Annual gathering of "Church Women
United", June 19-22, 2008.
Gail Mengel
currently serves as the National President of CWU.

As
a member of the "Save Darfur Coalition", Community of Christ co-signed a
letter to the United States Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice to encourage
cooperation with France and China to end the crisis in Darfur. The
letter endorses ENOUGH's strategy briefing, "An Axis of Peace for Darfur:
The United States, France, and China," which can be found on the web at

. Secretary
Rice met with an "expanded contact group" in France on June 25. Visit

- October 2004: Apostle Gail Mengel was elected as the eighteenth national
president of Church Women United (CWU). Founded in 1941, CWU is a
racially, culturally and theologically inclusive Christian women's movement,
celebrating unity and diversity and working for a world of peace and justice.
Millions of women participate in CWU programs and ministries thorugh the
activities of the 1,100 local units in the United States and Puerto Rico.
Gail invites Community of Christ women to become active in this organization.
- We hosted the 26th
Annual Conference of the Hymn
Society of the United States and Canada, on July 15-19, 2001, at the
Community of Christ International Headquarters Complex in Independence Missouri.
- President
W. Grant McMurray,
Apostles David Brock and Larry Tyree, and Chesapeake Bay Mission Center
President Richard Bunch represented our world-wide church at the "Poor No
More! A National Summit on the Churches and Poverty", held February
13-16, 2000 in Washington D.C.
- President

Coordinator of Peace and Justice Ministries Andrew
Bolton, President of Seventy Bunda Chibwe, and Transformation 2000
Minister Mary Ooko attended the Parliament of the World's Religions in South Africa December 1-8,
1999. McMurray made a presentation about the Community of Christ faith movement. For

- Jim
Wallis, editor-in-chief of Sojourners
magazine and one of America's foremost
religious leaders, presented the keynote address on Monday evening, September 20, 1999 in
the Temple sanctuary. His talk focused on the role of the Christian church today in
the pursuit of peace and justice, spiritual vitality, and Christian action, and engaging
in our transformative goal.
- We hosted at the Temple,
the March 16-17, 1998 Denominational Stewardship Directors meeting,
sponsored by the Ecumenical Council on Stewardship Studies Center, Indianapolis IN.
In addition to our church, other groups represented in the meeting were: United Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church
(USA), United Church of Canada, United Church of Christ, Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America, Church of the Brethren, Episcopal Church, Evangelical Covenant Church, American
Baptist Church, First Fruits-Barnabas Foundation, Mennonite Church, Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ).
- Affiliate member, serving on the National Board of Project Equality, a
national ecumenical organization that upholds the importance of equal opportunities for

- Members of our Sawyerville congregation assist with His Store, an ecumenical
community service project.
- We're co-sponsors of the 1998 Congress on Urban
Ministry, held April 14-17, 1998 in Chicago.
- President W. Grant McMurray serves on the board of directors of the Interfaith
Impact for Justice and Peace, a national ecumenical organization of religious
denominations and agencies concerned with matters of public policy.
- We have congregations in over 50 nations around the world, where people
are finding a relationship with Jesus, receiving His ministry, and learning
